Why I bought a petrol car: April 2026
I have recently had to change my car. As an instructor, I am very conscious that we are an emissions-heavy industry, and that this is having a negative effect on the planet. As a result, I did look at the possibility of moving to an electric car.
However, most students still want to obtain a manual licence, so I decided that I need to ensure that I can continue to meet the demand for this for the time being at least.
My old car, was purchased in 2016, so it was 10 years old and was sadly showing it’s age, with a big garage bill pending if I had kept it any longer. Being a diesel, it was also not very good for the environment.
By moving to a much newer car, I can also offer a safer and more stylish driving experience to my students. My new Seat Ibiza is a much more comfortable ride, and being petrol instead of diesel, should at least be more efficient for the type of driving that most lessons involve. Learners passing in a diesel often struggle with clutch control when transitioning to a petrol car, so this should also hopefully help my students when buying their own cars.
